Summa Health Rootstown Welcomes Community With Open House

Thank you.

That’s what one couple wanted to tell Clifford Deveny, M.D., president and CEO of Summa Health, after the ribbon cutting Saturday, Sept. 11, to celebrate the upcoming opening of Summa Health Rootstown Medical Center, located at 4211 State Route 44, on the Northeast Ohio Medical University campus.

With 10 new areas of service opening Sept. 28, Rootstown residents will receive health care attention they have needed, said Dr. Deveny.

Looking around the parking lot and tent where community members had gathered on this bright, breezy day for the ceremony and a tour of the new facilities, Dr. Deveny said the expressions on people’s faces told him, “Someone’s paying attention to us.”

In their remarks at the ceremony, both NEOMED President John Langell, M.D., Ph.D., and Dr. Deveny noted the strong relationship that has existed between Summa and NEOMED ever since the University’s founding 48 years ago. Many NEOMED graduates complete residencies and fellowships at Summa Akron City Hospital. And a NEOMED College of Medicine graduate, Vivek Bhalla, M.D., is the chief medical officer for Summa Health Rootstown Medical Center.

Summa Health Therapy (physical therapy) has already opened across the street (Route 44) from the new facility. The following offices will open Sept. 28:

  • Urgent care
  • Behavioral health
  • Cardiology
  • Corporate health
  • Gynecologic oncology
  • Neurology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Primary care
  • LabCare Plus
  • Weight management

Adding to the continuum of care, Summa Health has entered an agreement to purchase Rootstown Community Pharmacy. That transition will occur Oct. 1.

“There are so many synergies between our organizations,” said Dr. Deveny after the event. “We’d love to see this facility continue to grow.”
