Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan introduced “Rosie” – the $12 million, 2.2 million pound tunnel boring machine, coming to Akron for the Ohio Canal Interceptor Tunnel project.  Rosie has a 30-foot 6-inch, white, circular face powered by an electric motor and hydraulic pumps.  The tunnel boring machine was named to honor “Rosie the Riveter,” Rose May Jacob.  After testing, Rosie will be transported to Akron where she will be reassembled at the starting point near downtown Akron and the Little Cuyahoga River.

You can read more about Rosie in the Akron Beacon Journal.
