69 kV Ring Bus Control Building
Owner: Confidential
Welty Energy and Infrastructure (WEI) provided project management services to Medropolitan Edison and Mid-Atlantic Interstate Transmission (MAIT)subsidiary on a new, 42’ x 22’ control building for a 69kV Ring Bus substation in the company’s Metropolitan Edison service area.
WEI project managers coordinated with Panelmatic on the assembly and delivery of the facility, which is designed to enhance reliability, redundancy, operational flexibility, and cost-effectiveness.
The control building was delivered in two 22’ x 11’ sections and craned onto 12 foundation piers in two separate lifts. Once craning was completed, the two sections were sealed up and joined together.
Except for the batteries and battery monitors, all components of the building sections were prefabricated and installed off-site. Due to regulations, batteries and battery monitors must be delivered separately and installed on-site.
Because the control building was prefabricated with pre-installed components and panels, delivery crews and craning crews had to take special care to ensure interior components and panels were not damaged during the movement of the control building.
