    Q&A session with: Jennifer Forcier

What inspired you to pursue a career in economic development?

I was introduced to public administration in a class with Dr. Tom Sutton at Baldwin Wallace, where we spent the semester following different cities and how they function. That was the first time I really saw how local decisions, policy, and economics all intersect, and it made the field feel very real to me.
From there, I earned a Master of Public Administration with a certificate in economic development. Since I had already been interested in economics and earned a minor in it at BW, it felt like a natural path to follow. Now, as an economic development analyst, I support that work by analyzing data, trends, and community conditions to help inform decision-making and understand how those dynamics play out in practice.

What problems do you enjoy solving?

I’m most drawn to problems that don’t have simple answers, where data tells one story but lived experience tells another. I enjoy understanding why systems fall short, gap in access, market challenges, or policy misalignment, and helping translate that complexity into a clearer picture of what is happening.

How do you give back to the community and industry?

I actively give back through both leadership and service. I serve as a board member for the Northeast Ohio Science & Engineering Fair (NEOSEF) and recently joined the 2026 Cleveland Data Days Planning Committee, supporting regional collaboration around data, education, and innovation. In addition, I volunteer with organizations and community events such as the Akron Marathon, Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump benefiting the Akron Food Bank, and have supported efforts including animal fostering, local festivals, and workplace safety initiatives.

What are goal(s) have you get to achieve?

One of my goals is to complete my Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credential through ACFE and continue developing my skills through professional development opportunities, including programming through the Ohio Economic Development Association (OEDA). I’m also interested in completing additional GIS training and coursework.
