Welty Enterprises celebrated 80 years of business in 2025. From Jerry Welty’s early commercial builds to six thriving business units, our journey has been one of growth, innovation, and unwavering teamwork. For eight decades, we’ve been evolving Northeast Ohio, shaping skylines, strengthening communities, and building a brighter future together.
History of Welty Enterprises
Over the past 80 years, Welty has built a legacy defined by craftsmanship, innovation, and lasting relationships.
In 1945, Henry D. Welty—a former Central High School industrial arts teacher and longtime Cuyahoga Falls resident—founded the Henry D. Welty Co. with a vision to design and build quality homes. What began as a small, locally focused business steadily grew as Welty expanded its expertise and reputation across Ohio.
As the company grew, so did the involvement of the next generation. Jerry Welty worked his way up through the organization and, in 1966, the company was renamed Henry D. Welty & Son, Inc., reflecting the Welty family’s continued leadership.
A few years later, Henry retired and Jerry began transitioning the company’s focus from residential construction to commercial projects. With this shift came another new chapter, and the business was renamed Welty Building Corporation, marking a significant step in the company’s evolution.
In the mid-1990s, Don Taylor joined the company. His tenacity, leadership, and vision were quickly recognized. In 1996, Welty Building Company, Ltd. was established and Don was named President. Just three years later, Don purchased the company from Jerry, who remained involved as Chairman of the Board.
Welty continued to grow and expand its reach across Ohio in the years that followed. The company opened its Cleveland office in 2011, followed by the establishment of a Columbus office in 2013, strengthening its presence throughout the region.
Today, Welty Enterprises serves as the umbrella organization for the Welty family of brands, including Welty Construction, Welty Development, Welty Energy, Welty Generation Solutions, inSITE Advisory Group, and environments 4 business. Together, these companies continue the tradition of excellence that began eight decades ago.
Celebrating at Lock 3 Park
Back in 1945, Welty was founded in Akron, Ohio. With more than 80 years of history rooted in the region, the newly renovated Lock 3 Park served as the prime location for Welty’s 80‑year celebration. The venue highlighted Welty’s long-standing presence in downtown Akron and its involvement in several major projects, including the renovation and new construction of the Akron Art Museum, work at The University of Akron, the Bowery Apartments, and the upcoming Citi Center Apartments. With deep ties to Northeast Ohio, Lock 3 provided an appropriate setting that reflected both Welty’s legacy and its continued role in shaping the region.
The event was not only a recognition of our eight decades of growth, but also a tribute to the individuals, partners, and clients who have been part of our journey. We were proud to bring together people connected to Welty throughout our history, including retirees, long‑term partners and clients, and our current team members.
The evening was filled with celebration, featuring a balloon artist, a bouncy house, a live band, and food trucks, creating an atmosphere where everyone could relax, reconnect, and enjoy the evening.
Bringing everyone together was a reminder of how big the impact that Wetly has made across all Business Units and in Northeast Ohio. When we come together WE can achieve big things.

This event served as a powerful reminder of what Welty stands for at its core—a company built on collective strength, shared purpose, and the belief that we accomplish more when we come together. It brought The Power of WE to life, showing that every person across Welty plays a vital role in shaping our story. Beyond celebrating our internal teamwork, it also reflected the impact we’ve made within our communities over the years. These efforts not only strengthen our community, but also reinforce the trust our clients place in us.
