The Project
This new 55,000 square foot YMCA is a community collaboration involving the Akron Area YMCA and Summa Health System. Constructed by Welty Building Company, the University Park YMCA broke ground in the fall of 2009. This facility is the YMCA’s flagship Summit County facility, and only the sixth LEED accredited YMCA Facility across the U.S. This facility features multiple pools, child care, an indoor track, a large fitness area, and basketball and racquetball courts. Unique to this YMCA, the facility also features an orthopedic and fitness-oriented portion operated by Summa Health System.
