The Project
<p>This 35,000 square foot facility is a very unique project for the Akron Zoological Park. After being reviewed by the U.S. Green Building Council, this project obtained LEED® Certification and was <b><i>the first LEED® Certified building in Summit County, Ohio</i></b> and <b><i>one of only three LEED® Certified U.S. Zoo Buildings</i></b>. This “Green Building” is the arrival point for school and community groups visiting the park, utilizing its educational classrooms, research library, and distance learning studio reinforcing the Zoo’s mission of conservation and species survival. The animal exhibits provide natural habitats for Komodo Dragons, Galapagos Tortoises and Chinese Alligators.</p>
