The Project
<p>FirstEnergy Corp. asked Welty Building Company to be the construction manager for its new 208,000 square foot energy and environmentally friendly West Akron Campus. It is a “green” building project that achieved a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating of Gold. Offering enhanced technology, energy efficiency, and innovative design, the facility makes good use of recycled building materials, and has water- and energy-saving systems as well as refrigeration technology to minimize ozone effects. The campus is made up of three office buildings which are anchored by a central hub. More than 800 employees work on this campus. It also contains a full cafeteria and an exercise facility.</p>
