Ralph Regula Federal Building Opens in Canton, Ohio

The General Services Administration, Carnegie Management and Development Corp., and Welty Building Company built the new Ralph Regula Federal Building in the heart of downtown Canton. This 45,000-square-foot facility brings well-lit offices, environmentally conscious utilities and a rejuvenated sense of pride to downtown Canton.

The facility houses the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, U.S. Trustees, U.S. Marshals, Social Security Administration and Internal Revenue Service. Keeping these federal agencies working in Canton can be attributed to the building’s namesake, Congressman Ralph Regula, who helped get federal funding for this project with the hope of invigorating the southwest section of downtown.

The building features barriers around the perimeter called bollards to deter car bombers, a legacy of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. Designers intentionally chose building materials that would be resistant to the impact of an explosion.

The building was dedicated on July 16, 2010 with Congressman Regula present.
